Quattroporte I (2nd series) - 1966 to 1970
The fastest 4-door sedan of the Sixties - 210 to 230 kph (131 to 144 mph) depending on engine, gearbox and final drive. Stylist Pietro Frua took inspiration from the 5000 GT coupé he had coachbuilt for the Aga Khan two years earlier. Body production (772 in total) by the Vignale factory. Entirely new chassis design with box-sectioned rails. DeDion-style rear suspensions at first, replaced by a rigid axle from 1966.
Powered by a new V8-engine of 4.2 litres/260 hp (available with 4.7 litres/290 hp from 1966), fed by four twin-choke carburettors and with single ignition. 5-speed manual or 3-speed automatic gearbox. Anthony Quinn, Stewart Granger, Marcello Mastroianni, Alberto Sordi and Rainier III of Monaco were among Quattro Porte owners and a certain Peter Ustinov bought two of them.
