Tipo 4CM 1500 - 1932-1938
The growing interest in the 1500 cc category guaranteed the new 4CM 1500 a certain amount of commercial success, especially with non-Italian customers. In the meantime, however, the competition had come up with some impressive models themselves, such as the Delage 8-cylinder and the ERA with its Riley-inspired 6-cylinder engine.
But out on the circuits where a car's general stability counted more than its top speed, the 4CM 1500 took its revenge, as happened in the Eifelrennen at the Nürburgring in 1934, when Luigi Castelbarco drove the Maserati to victory in its class. The last version boasted a chassis very similar to the 6CM's, with a shorter wheelbase, independent front suspension with torsion bar springing, and a more modern body. It remained competitive until 1938.
