Tipo 6C 34 - 1934-1935
Powered by a new in-line six-cylinder that punched out an extra 30bhp and weighed 13 kg less than the eight-cylinder mounted on the 8CM, the 6C 34 made its first ever track appearance at the 1934 Italian Grand Prix, just five days after bench testing finished on its engine. Unfortunately, brake problems meant that it failed to figure high in the rankings, but in its next outing, this time at the Masaryk Grand Prix, Nuvolari came third behind the uncatchable Mercedes and Auto Union cars, and ahead of the famous Alfa Romeo P3.
The 6C 34's chassis was modified somewhat in 1935 to make it more rigid and a new independent front suspension with the Parisi system, was also tried out. It ended its career as the Scuderia Subalpina's semi-official car in the hands of drivers of the calibre of Varzi, Ghersi and Siena, for whom it earned a large number of good placings but no wins.
