Tipo 8CLT - 1950
This car was built thanks to the enthusiastic backing of two men from Turin, Franco Rol and Giuseppe Farina. Their intent was to race it in the Indianapolis 500, in which the now rather dated 8 CTF could still hold its own. Engineering-wise, they decided to start with the 8CL engine to which improvements were made using advanced metallurgical treatments and construction technologies.
The chassis was similar to the 4CLT/48's but was reinforced to cope with the greater stress produced by the engine's greater power output. Last but not least of the modifications were more aerodynamic lines and sophisticated 400 mm front drums. Unfortunately, however, the marque's financial difficulties greatly hampered the development of the single-seater and the great Indianapolis adventure never took place. The two models built later were sold to the Zambucka team of New Zealand.
