4C 2500
The Tipo 4C and 4CM 2500 were Maserati's attempt at widening the successful 4-cylinder range by stretching the engine to 2.0 and 2.5 litres. The latter had a fixed cylinder head and gave 195 bhp at 5,300 rpm as well as immense torque at low to medium revs. The 19-inch wheels were fitted with Pirelli tyres.
The Tipo 4C was appreciated from a technical standpoint, despite suffering from inferior road-holding, but lacked commercial value. Just a single works experimental car was made, revised and re-bodied from a single-seater (4CM) into a two-seater (4C) a couple of times. Raced by Piero Taruffi and Goffredo Zehender, Spanish nobleman José de Villapadierna, Giuseppe Farina and Carlo Felice Trossi. The engine alone was sold in 1937 to Hungarian Lazlo Hartmann who installed it into his Tipo 6CM single-seater.
