Tipo 26MM
A road car body with cycle wings and running boards, doors and headlights, a small windshield and a folding canvas top was adapted to fit the Tipo 26 Grand Prix car for the 2nd edition of the Mille Miglia road race in 1928. Chopped-off tail with two spare wheels mounted.
Tool box and battery box on the (wooden) running boards. Electrics by Bosch of Germany, with an electric starter. 1.5-litre engine with cast iron cylinder block. Output by now rated at 128 bhp, with the supercharger fed by a single carburettor. Exhaust system with a silencer. 4-speed gearbox. Short wheelbase of 2.58 meters. Top speed 180 kph (112 mph).
Two cars were made for Carlo Tonini and Pietro Brunori of Rome; they shared the same Tipo 26 MM fitted with a long-distance fuel tank of 132 litres capacity in the 1928 Mille Miglia, finishing in 23rd position. At the Caserta circuit race Brunori won against rivals with twice the engine size of his Maserati, while Tonini finished second in 1.5-litre class.
