Tipo 8C 3000

Tipo 8C 3000

The Tipo 8C 3000 was the final two-seater Grand Prix Maserati. An interim model, it featured a new straight-8 engine of 3.0 litres and 210 to 220 bhp inspired by the new 4-cylinder (see 4CTR) in many details of its design, maintaining the same bore and (long-)stroke dimensions. 4-speed gearbox with some components sourced from the Fiat 522, causing drivers to complain about serious gear lever vibration. The chassis was that of the Tipo 26M with a wheelbase of 2.75 metres. Dry weight of 850 kg with a fuel tank of 195 litres capacity. Dunlop tyres were later replaced by Pirellis. The car was good for a top speed of 220 to 240 km/h (136.5 to 149 mph). Replaced from 1933 by Maserati's first single-seater Grand Prix car, the 8CM.

Two works cars were made and raced by Luigi Fagioli, Giuseppe Campari (winner of the 1933 French GP), Baconin Borzacchini and Tim Birkin. Both cars survive. A spare engine was installed in a Bugatti chassis.
