The Ghibli Diesel’s design strongly reflects its sporting pedigree

The Ghibli Diesel, the first ever Maserati diesel-powered car, still has a strong, unmistakable sporting pedigree: this is obvious right away the thanks to the coupé-like streamlined silhouette, the narrow windows and the very pronounced triangular C-pillar. Its dynamic profile is emphasised by the sculpted forms of the mudguards, which blend into a central form with clearly defined linking lines.

A thrusting, aggressive nose

The front of the car is dominated by the distinctive Maserati radiator grille, with concave vertical fillets inspired by the GranTurismo and the A6 GCS Berlinetta, a famous icon from the past. The matt black finish of these features contrasts with the chromed surround and the large Trident logo suspended in the centre, on which the aggressive headlights converge. The design of the radiator grille is emphasised by the line of the mudguards and the long engine hood.

Distinctive luminous surrounds

The front light assemblies make skilful use of LED technology to underline the car’s strong personality: highly effective Bi-Xenon headlights are combined with the Daytime Running Light function, which makes the car immediately recognisable and visible in all conditions. Incorporated in the headlight units, the LED indicator lights replicate the distinctive motif of the three Maserati signature side air-vents.

The tapered rear gives this fairly large car a sleek silhouette

The triangular C-pillar and frameless door windows give the car the look of a sleek coupé, even though its length and wheelbase are amongst the longest in the class. To the rear, the tapered design of the boot is the natural continuation of the cabin, while the two LED lights provide continuity with the mudguards. The twin exhaust tailpipes also enhance the sporty look.

Inside, soft leather and exquisite contrast stitching reflect the Maserati tradition

The Maserati Ghibli’s unique personality is also expressed by its interior: the soft leather of the seat upholstery can also be used on the dashboard and doors, plain surfaces on which original two-tone combinations can be created for a more sporty or elegant interior. Not to mention the exquisite contrast stitching, the epitome of traditional craftsmanship.

The dashboard is a modern interpretation of the Maserati design tradition

The smooth lines of the dashboard immerse passengers in an atmosphere of pure luxury: two side panels converge in the centre, also drawing in the top section, adorned with the traditional Maserati clock with its blue face and aluminium details. In the middle, the large 8.4” display of the Maserati Touch Control is the portal for accessing the car’s entertainment technologies.

The wraparound seats combine comfort with a sporty feel

Without detracting from the beauty of the car’s lines, the long wheelbase provides occupants with one of the roomiest interiors in the sports saloon category. The seats have also been designed with great care: with the Trident logo embossed on the headrests and their wraparound form, they underline the interior’s sporty feel while guaranteeing top-class comfort.

The first diesel car in Maserati’s history delivers sporty performance

The Ghibli Diesel is the first diesel-powered car in Maserati’s history: underneath the engine hood there is an innovative 3 litre V6 unit incorporating all the benefits of the very latest diesel engine technology. The engine is still very much in keeping with the Maserati tradition thanks to its sporty temperament and 275 CV, which enables the car to surge from 0 to 62 mph in 6.3 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph.

Efficiency and fuel saving

The performance figures speak volumes about the excellent efficiency of the Ghibli Diesel’s engine, which is reflected even more clearly by its fuel consumption and emissions data: 47.8 mpg (5.9 l/100km) and 158 g/km in the combined cycle are extremely impressive values, achieved partly thanks to the Stop&Start system that shuts down the engine whenever the car stops and restarts it automatically when it is time to move again. The system can also be deactivated using buttons on the steering wheel.

Maserati Active Sound System

A Maserati is also recognisable by its engine sound: the Ghibli Diesel’s strong sporty nature is also strongly conveyed in this department thanks to the introduction of the new Maserati Active Sound system. Two sound actuators, fitted near the exhaust tailpipes, enhance the engine’s most attractive sounds. When the driver presses the Sport button on the central tunnel, this roar becomes even more vocal and thrilling.

The automatic transmission responds to driving style and road conditions

The Ghibli Diesel benefits from the potential of a next-generation eight-speed ZF automatic transmission: lightweight, high-performance and a guarantee of precision gear shifting, it is controlled by auto-adaptive software able to recognise driving style and road conditions and adapt the gear changing mode accordingly. There are five operating modes: Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Manual Normal, Manual Sport and I.C.E. (Increased Control & Efficiency).

The personalisation programmes underline the pleasure of feeling unique

The Ghibli Diesel enjoys a personalisation programme unique for cars in this class. The leather upholstery of the interior is available in five colours: Nero, Cuoio, Sabbia, Marrone and Rosso Trofeo, while for an extremely sophisticated atmosphere, the roof lining can be finished with Alcantara® in Nero, Sabbia or Grigio.

For music connoisseurs seeking more power, more dynamism, and an extra dimension of emotional realism, the optional Harman Kardon Premium Sound System brings new levels of audio refinement to the Maserati Ghibli. With ten high-powered speakers carefully positioned throughout the cabin, the system produces 360 degrees of sublime sound reproduction despite the listeners` seating position. A special high-performance subwoofer handles the low-end frequencies with ease, whilst the mid-range drivers and tweeters ensure that every instrument makes its presence felt on this virtual concert platform.

Those in search of concert-hall acoustics on the Ghibli have only to order the optional new-generation Premium Surround system, created in association with high-end sound specialists Bowers & Wilkins. The system, with a 16-channel 1,280 Watt amplifier and 15 speakers, blends perfectly into the design of the interior and guarantees unparalleled sound with unbeatable dynamic purity.

Leather upholstery with three customisation levels

The interior upholstery offers three levels of customisation: the leather used on the front and rear seats as standard can also be used on the side areas above the dashboard, the instrument panel brow and the door armrests to create an original two-tone combination: Nero/Cuoio.

It can be argued that nature is the ultimate artisan…so it’s no surprise that our idea of luxury includes some of nature’s finest works. Maserati and the world-renown fashion house, Ermenegildo Zegna, understand this, and have teamed up to produce some of the automotive world’s most sumptuous and serene environments ever.

Discerning drivers and passengers will feel fully indulged surrounded by the interior’s luxury leathers. Further comfort and style can be seen in the natural fibre Zegna Mulberry Silk inserts that are embellished with a hand-stitched micro-chevron and are found on the seats, door panels, roof lining, sunshades and the ceiling light fixture. Seating features a central silk insert with a macro-chevron weave. Door panels, roof lining and sunshades are further covered with Zegna silk jersey, completing the artistic ambience.

Choice finishing materials

The standard trim features a modern black finish on the central tunnel and door panel trims, while to further emphasise the elegant or sporty character of the car’s interior owners have a choice of Radica wood trim, an exquisite, extremely tactile open-pore wood with a wealth of knots and vein patterning, Ebona or carbon fibre, in a special gloss finish.
